Aims of the organization are to:

1.

Provide a direct service, which is culturally sensitive and responsive to the needs of individual people in mental distress, their families and carers in both primary and secondary settings.

 

2.

Promote and support the establishment of self-help and advocacy within the African and Caribbean community aimed at supporting people in maintaining control of their lives and empowering them to discover and follow courses of appropriate action.

 

3.

Establish a machinery for dialogue between the community and service providers to enable greater involvement in service planning and delivery.

 

4.

Facilitate discussion and exploration of mental health issues within the African and Caribbean community.

 

5.

Encourage the relevant social welfare agencies in the statutory and voluntary sector to become more sensitive, accessible and culturally appropriate to the needs and experiences of the African and Caribbean community by stimulating debate and discussion and providing information and education.


6.

To monitor and evaluate its aims and objectives and the quality of work undertaken to meet them to ensure that the core purpose remains central to ACMHS and to review its aims accordingly.
